Depression and Anxiety

Are you struggling with excessive anxiety and worry?  Do you often feel sad, hopeless or struggle with fatigue and lack of motivation? The intense and uncomfortable experience of both anxiety and depression has become all too common in our daily lives!  If not properly addressed and treated, they can create additional problems, including unhealthy coping choices such as substance abuse and eventual serious health issues.

Depression and anxiety are more often than not, co-occurring and can be a result of chronic stress.  Some very common symptoms of depression, according to the DSM-V include feelings of hopelessness, low energy or fatigue, problems sleeping, poor appetite concentration problems and low self-esteem and feelings of worthlessness.  Anxiety symptoms can sometimes look like depression, with sleep disturbance, difficulty concentrating and fatigue.  Other common cognitive anxiety symptoms include, chronic worry, irritability, and dread.  Physical symptoms such as chest discomfort, light-headedness, pounding heart and shortness of breath are often experienced.

While occasional bouts of these symptoms may be situational and can quickly be addressed with lifestyle changes, prolonged symptoms and suffering calls for professional help. Every person’s experience is unique and requires individual attention.  Psychotherapy will provide the appropriate assessment, diagnosis and treatment plan for you.  In my work, I will strive to help you rediscover hope and joy and create a healthier and happier lifestyle.
